Phyllis, This is very confusing.See if this makes sense. I have that Joseph Yard Provance, married 1st to Elizabeth Castro & 2nd to Rachel Reed Spencer.`I have him with 23/24
children. 3 of his sons were Benjamin E., Jesse & Benjamin F. Jesse & Celia Spencer Provance were the parents of your John William Provance, who married 1st Lucretia Arnett, daughter of Levi & Barbara Stevens Arnett, 2nd to Sophronia Bolyard.(20 children).Benjamin E.& Jeanne Hartley Provance were the parents of 4, one son, James & his wife Susan Swearington, are the parents of a daughter,
Pleasant, who married a Myers Altman. No dates. She had 12 siblings. The other Benjamin Franklin, and his wife, Elizabeth Brown Provance, also had a daughter, Pleasant, b.Fayette Co. PA, 1841, married James Calvert, plus Joseph, b.1843 WV, Spencer, b.1845 VA, d.1-23-1861, Rachel Ann, b.1848 PA,married Peter D. Moore (10 kids), d.1930, Tharon H., b.1852 PA, Married 1st,Cassie Ann Rose, 2nd, Catherine Phillips (6 kids)d.1932, MO & Lewis.
So, Benjamin E, Benjamin F. were uncles of John William.
Benjamin E. died 1-11-1814 & is buried in Provance Cemetery opposite old Lock #7 on the Monongahela River, his wife, Jeanne remarried a Jacob Owl. Benjamin Franklin died 8-8-1859 & is buried in Shriver Farm Cemetery, Monongalia Co, VA, his wife, Elizabeth died 2-12-1908 is buried in Pidgeon Creek Cemetery, Washington Co, PA. John William's father, Jesse, died 4-3-1873 & is buried in Polly Creek Cemetery, Bellvue, KS, as is his wife, Celia. Hope this helps..did they list Pleasant as a Altman of just as Pleasant A? It sounds like there were 2 Pleasants', perhaps both 9 & named after a friend who died when they were born. But then it's strange that James & Susan's Pleasant married a Altman, the Altman family must have been very close but I find no other namings of marriages. Hope I didn't make it worse. Lori
