Consolidating Prowse Family Trees
I have posted my family tree on the web at two locations.
I hope that it is found by other researchers who are also interested in members of my family tree. Unfortunately there are many other sites similar to those above that researchers may post to. I often wonder whether there is
another researcher who has posted information of interest to me on another site, but neither of us will ever know that the other exists.
So, I have a suggestion. We should actively encourage all Prowse researchers to post their family trees to a common site. I suggest that it be the RootsWeb World Connect site, as this site is free to access by all. No subscription is required. This means that the maximum number of researchers
can search the site and also can post family trees to it.
I believe that the data at the World Connect site is also shared with Ancestry.com so researchers of ancestry.com will also find it. This genforum is run by genealogy.com who are now owned by the same people who run ancestry.com and rootweb, so they should be happy
One alternative site that could be considered is www.gencircles.com. It has what may be a unique feature called smart links. This searches all submitted family trees and identifies possible links. I was blown away with the number of links that it found for me.
What does everyone think of the suggestion of actively encouraging use of a common site?
