Re: Newton Abbot, Highweek and Wolborough in Devon
I have some support for the International Genealogical Index record of the marriage of Mary Prowse and Jeffrey Horswill. It is also listed for the same date in data that I have received from the Devon Family History Scociety on Prowse/Prouse marriages between 1754 and 1812. Though the groom's first name is spelt Jeffery.
It is not that easy to identify the Mary Prowse. If we assume Mary was born about 1790, then it may be Mary Prowse b 4 Dec 1789 at Abbotskerswell to Thomas Prowse and Elizabeth. IGI Batch C050161. This all assumes that at leat one of them came fromwas Mary who came from Abbotskerswell and that it was Mary.
Following the same assumption, and remembering that people did not move much from their home villages, then the following may be of interest
A Thomas Prowse married Elizabeth Burt on 10 March 1774 in Abbotskerswell, IGI Batch M050161.
I don't believe I have an unmarried Thomas from my line in that period. But then again, the first few generations of my line are based on the same type of tenuous links as those above.
Hope this helps
