Margaret Fraser (nee SMITH) Pruden
I have seen several mentions of John Peter Pruden's mother, Margaret, as having had the surname of Smith, but no one knows where it officialy is recorded as such.Where was this information first located?? It seems that it is just copied and carried on...is it correct...was she born a Smith? If she was, I have a possible link to her through my 4x grandfather, William Robert Smith. When William arrived at York Factory in 1816, this was recorded in the York Factory Journal, Sept. 28th: Smith a relative of Mr Pruden came ashore.William used the name Pruden as a middle name for one of his sons.He also named one son Edgar Edward Harriott Smith.J.P.'s sister Christiana Pruden Harriott had a son by the name of John Edward Harriott...coincidence??William told his son Tom that as a school boy in England he (William) visited the Prudens on school holidays.William served on the Council of Assiniboia, was J.P. who was also on Council influential in William's appointment? If Margaret was a sister to William'a father, she would be his Aunt and John Peter would be his first cousin. Can anyone shed light on this Smith mystery??
