Roy,
You may already know this, and, if so, my apologies for repeating, but your Joseph W. Cowger and family appear to be listed in the 1880 census on familysearch.org, under K. W. Cowger, b. 1839 in TN, but living in Fannin, TX at the time of the census.Reason I believe this the same family is that the names of the children you provide for the most part have the same initials as those on the census (though one is reversed (M. A. Cowger for your Ada Mortimer) and the census lists the child with the same age as your Dora with the name Dan P. Cowger, but indicates this "boy's name" is a daughter - probably census error on name).
It lists K.W. Cowger's wife as Mattie A. Cowger, age 36 (i.e., b. about 1844) in KY.If this is a nickname for Martha Ann, then perhaps this offers a lead to look in 1850 or 1860 census for KY, if you haven't already done so, when Martha Ann would have been about 6 and 16, respectively, and likely still living at home with her parents.
A quick check of the 1860 census indicates a Martha, age 17 (i.e., born about 1843) living with her parents Nelson Puckett, age 42, b. KY, and wife Lodica, age 42.
For what it's worth, I have these two folks in my Puckett data base, with Nelson born about 1817 but in Amherst, VA, and his wife as Lucretia King.Other children in 1860 census are William-21, Anna-12, James-10, Rods (I have as Rhodes)-6, Parmela-4, and Perleny (I have as Paulina)-1.I also have Nelson and Lodica having another son, Henry Irvin, born 24 may 1864.
Hope this of some use.
