Jose Ygnacio Puente Farfan - 1912?
Jose Ygnacio Puente Farfan, my grandfather, was born in Mexico around 1912.His father, Nicolas Puente, was from Spain and in the military. His mother's maiden name was Farfan.I don't beleive he had any siblings but he did mention family connections in Salamanca Guanajuato and Morelia, where he was born.
He told me the name Puente came from a region in Spain known as Burgos (Castilla la Vieja).Names were given to people because of things they did in times of war. As I understand it, when the Castillians were conquering the northern part of Spain, and attempted to take over a village along the Burgos River, they would be killed while crossing under a bridge. The saying went, "All crusar el puente, me causo la muerte."
My grandfather married an American from Michigan, Luisa Puente Matusik (Vilches?) and had two children, Jose Ignacio and Mona, both of which are still in Mexico.I have three siblings, all of which live in the States, Texas and Georgia.
I don't know much about my family history, so please feel free to contact me if any of this sounds familiar.
