Hi Gus: Thanks for the information on the Pullen/Poulains French name.I'm trying to find the area in France that they emigrated from because my great grandparents were (one was, at least) a carrier of a rare muscular dystrophy disease,Oculopharngeal Muscular Dystrophy (OPMD).It's quite prevelant in French Quebec, and can be traced back to one family from France.
My father's family came directly from France to the USA in the late 1800's and I'm the third or fourth generation. I guess you don't count the original family so it would be the third generation, right? My cousin and I come from the same genetic pool.He was just diagnosed with a rare mitochondrial myopathy, a form of muscular dystrophy. There is some mutation of the defective gene that he has and I don't have, odd but plausible.I inherited my OPMD from my father, he from his father, etc.
I'd very much like to know how and where to go to trace the Pullen/Poulains in France. There are clusters of OPMD still there.Have you any suggestions?
