John, I found in your post a reference to my husband's ancestors, Drury Pulliam & his 2nd wife, Sallie W. Brooks.Do you have any idea who this Drury (Drewery) Pulliam's parent were?I have seen him listed as Drury and as William Drury Pulliam, but have not found any clue as to his parents. He was born 1799/1800 probably in VA, and lived in both Person Co., NC and in Halifax, VA.His 1st wife, Mary Turner died childless (m 1817 in Person Co., NC).He married Sallie W. ( Sarah Woody) Brooks in Person Co., NC in 1819.Her parents were Robert Brooks and his wife/1st cousin Frances "Fannie" Brooks. Her paternal grandparents were Arthur Brooks & wife, Sarah Woody, her maternal grandparents were John Brooks & wife, Elizabeth. Drury & Sallie had the following children: Martha, Thomas M., James Brooks Pulliam (b. 1821), -male child_ (b. 1823), Robert (b.1824), Ann (b. 1832), William (b. 1835).
Sarah is listed as head of house in 1840 census;she dies shortly thereafter. Drury does not appear in census.
Drury & widow, Eliza Griffin marry in Halifax, VA in 1843 & have the following children:Margaret (b. 1847), Permelia (b. 1848), Ramson (b. 1850), and Drury (b. 1853)
I have a good bit of info on Salllie W. Brooks because of all the probate info regarding her inheritance going to her Pulliam children, but nothing to indicate who her in-laws might have been.I want to think that Drury is linked to your James Pulliam because they are both in Person County - but that could be a coincidence.I have records for a Drury Pulliam buying and selling land in Person County from 1819 to 1822, but that could be Drury Allen Pulliam although he is usually listed as Drury A. Pulliam.
Any suggestions or help you can offer will be greatly appreciated! Thanks,:Elizabeth Pulliam
