Pat,
I will contact you at your email.Your clarification on the marriage for David & Betty helps a lot.Taking the date 7 Sept 1786 for the birth of William and the date 19 Oct 1786 for his baptism and the marriage of his sister Bettie Pulham & Chas. Carter, I think we can see that there was quite a spread for these children. I reread my copy of David's will and need to correct the list of children in my last message. Joseph was apparently the oldest son, born 29 Nov 1764, and he was one of the executors. (He is the Joseph who married the other Elizabeth Holladay of James Peterson's messages #869 & #871 and I have that marriage date as 26 Sept 1785.)William is the youngest son (child?) as stated in the will. The children are named in the order as follows Joseph, Nathaniel, Richard, John, Elijah, James, William, Betty, Nancy and Sally.Separate reference to Mary indicates she was the youngest daughter. However, records apparently indicate that William & Nancy were assigned to Charles Carter as their guardian at David's death.Anyway, that makes eleven children in all. If the youngest is William, born in 1786, and we figure back using every two years for a child's birth we have at least 1764 for the birth of the first child. Actually, going by Joseph's birthdate of 29 Nov 1764 Spots. Co., I'd speculate that David and Betty were married 1763/4, andBetty was probably born ca. 1747 at the earliest. These dates do fit better with our estimates for Elijah & Fanny (Dickinson) Garton whose first child was born ca. 1756,One last note concerning David's will, he lists eleven slaves by name and one is named Alce and another little Alce.Hmmmm!Let me know what you think of all this.Gail
