Banister and Nancy Ingram Pulliam.....
Banister Pulliam, son of Drury and Susannah Williams Pulliam, was born in 1813 in Person Co. Nc. When Banister was 10 years old, his father sold all his real estate, mortgaged all his personal property and left Person Co. He evidently joined several members of his family in a westward migration. Some members went directly to Tennessee where they were living by 1830, buy Drury Allen Pulliam stopped for a while in western North Carolina somewhere in Macon County area. (info Dr. Jerry Cross, genealogist, Cary, N.C.)
On 22 February 1833, Banister married Nancy Ingram, daughter of Goldman and Jemima Hughey Ingram, who was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. Banister and Nancy remained in Macon County, a part of which was cut off to become Cherokee County in 1839. It is likely that they were already living in that area before the new county was created (ibid).
By 1850, Banister and Nancy had six children. Banister had acquired 145 acres of land in the vicinity of Andrews, N.C., 45 acres of which was a working farm valued at $300.00. There he raised 3 milk cows, 7 other cattle, 22 swine, grew 350 bushels of Indian corn, 100 bushels of oats, 50 bushels sweet potatoes, 1/2 ton of hay and produced 100 lbs. butter. (ibid).Sometime between 1870 and 1880 Banister, Nancy and their daughter Elizabeth moved to Graham County. Nancy died and is buried there. Her grave has not been located. After Nancys' death, Banister and Elizabeth moved back to Andrews. They are buried in Valley Town Cemetery.
Banister served in the Home Guard during the Civil War. He is listed on the first church register of the Andrews United Methodist Church, ca. 1850.l (info from Janet M. Roseen, Minn. MN.)
