Some time back I posted a query about Polly Pulver of Victory, Cayuga County, New York (post 330). I have just recently found her husband to be Philip Pulver. The 1850 census gives his age as 64, which would indicate a birth year of about 1786.
According to the surrogate's records of Cayuga County, Philip Pulver died 14 October 1854. His will was probated in January 1855.
In the 1855 New York state census, Polly claims her age as 68, which would give her a birth year of about 1787. She also says that she was born in Columbia County, New York and had lived at Victory in Cayuga County 34 years, which indicates that she and Philip came to Cayuga County about 1821.
Philip purchased land in Cayuga County in 1828 and in subsequent years as shown by deeds. In 1844 he sold a tract of land to William W. Pulver of Pine Plains, Dutchess County. About 1872 Philip's son, James Pulver, sold some land to William W. Pulver of Pine Plains, although it is doubtful that it was the same William (perhaps a son?).
Now, the International Genealogical Index on the FHL website shows a Philip christened 19 Aug 1787 at Pine Plains, Dutchess County. Father was Johan Wendel Pulver and mother was Charity or Engel Clum. The IGI also shows that Johan Wendel Pulver and Charity/Engel Clum had a son named William W., born 18 Aug 1773 at Pine Plains.
The 1820 Census shows a Philip Pulver at Northeast in Dutchess County, and, although it is impossible to say definitely that he is my Philip Pulver, the members of the household appear to fit the information I now have about Philip's children. (Another Philip Pulver is shown in the 1820 census at Claverack in Columbia County, but information about him and his children on the IGI rule out the possibility of his being my Philip Pulver.)
The children of my Philip Pulver, as named in his will, and not given below in strict birth order, are:
Philip;year of birth unknown; died before 1850; his six children were named in their grandfather's will
James;born 1816/1817;married Minerva; migrated to Nebraska about 1874
Maria;married a man by the name of Miller; Maria may have been born some time about 1806/07/08, as she seems to have had a daughter named Catherine, who was age 20 in 1850 and was in the household of Philip when the census was taken
Eunice;born about 1810/11; married Henry DeForest, probably about 1835
Priscilla;married Jacob Hiserodt
Samantha;born about 1819; married Edward Proseus; living in Wayne County in 1860
Sabrina;born about 1820; married David Townsend
William;born about 1830
Adam;born about 1832
I would be grateful for any information with respect to any of these people but particularly with regard to Philip Pulver and William W. Pulver of Pine Plains, Dutchess County
