Elaine,
I had no idea about the Boston area and the rail industry.Thank you for forwarding that info.
Patrick was my great grandmother's father. Her mother was Nellie Ford and great grandmother's parents never married. The year Patrick died, my great grandmother was put up for adoption (abt age 2).Nellie and my great grandmother, Mary Ellen Ford, lived in a home for those who were destitute.I believe Nellie worked in a saloon and just couldn't afford to raise a child and support herself. It looks to me that many people who came to America left a hard life and had a hard time getting ahead in their new country.
I believe Patrick was married when Mary Ellen came into his life.He didn't give his name to Mary Ellen. He already had a family and why make a bad situation worse.
I am realistic and know that I am lucky to even find who Mary Ellen parents were. Her name was changed to Grace Eveline by her adoptive parents, the Cauls.
Thank you for responding to my posting.
