I am looking for the descendants of a Martha Lee HART who married a John PURCELL about1870-1874. My information says that Martha Lee (HART) PURCELL was born in Jan. 1844, she largely grew up on a plantation in Bryan Co., GA until it was sold after the Civil War.John PURCELL must have died by about 1897 because Martha remarried a "Capt. Brantley." She died in 1913 in Fulton Co., GA.Other names in her family that might identify possible children's names include: Odingsell Witherspoon, Sarah Eliza (her parents), Mary Caroline, Robert Wilson, Josiah Stewart, Alice Matilda, Helen Lucile, and Emily Odingsell-- all surnamed HART.
Another thing: two of her sisters, at least, were genetic carriers of Duchyenne Muscular Dystrophy- therefore she may also have been a carrier, so each son had a 50-50 chance of having the disease and probably dying before the age of 18-20, and each daughter had a 50-50 chance of being carriers themselves. The disease is perpetuated through the mother/daughter line, so it becomes hard to trace (the daughters's surname changes each generation) but, there may be some memory of it in someone's family history. Thanks! Carol V.
