Jesse PURCELL War of 1812?

The April 1999 issue of the Purcell Family of America quarterly has an article on Jesse PURCELL (1788-1868)being horored with a memorial service this past May in Harrison Co., Iowa for his service in the War of 1812.I have been unable to confirm Jesse' war service.Can someone give me any additional information.Service dates?Regiment?I'd certainly like to include this in my files.
