Hi Terry,
I am searching for the Purifoy family who took in my great- great grandfather Joel William Horton. Family records say Purifoy was his guardian after his father died when he was about 5. He was born in 1814 in Maryland and his mother Nancy Ann DuBignon Horton died soon after. His father Horton(1st. name unknown) made arraingements for his care in Edgefield,S.C. where Joel continued to live out his life. He died in 1855 and is buried at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church, which is now in Saluda.
Any help or leads you might have on the benevolent Purifoy Family who raised Joel would be greatly appeciated.
