John Purifoy 1787-1839/Alabama

By Patricia Purifoy August 24, 2011 at 01:32:48

I am descended from Judge John Purifoy of Alabama (b 1842; d 1927) who served in the Jeff Davis artillery unit from Alabama during the Civil War. I believe that Judge John was the son of Francis Marion Purifoy (b 1818; d 1858), who was the son of John Purifoy (b 1787 & d 1839 in Alabama). Can anyone confirm anything going back further than this John Purifoy?

I think the John Purifoy who died in Alabama in 1839 was the son of Thomas Purifoy (b 1716; d 1802 North Carolina); and he was the son of Reverend Nicholas Purefoy (b 1679; d 1770 VA & NC)who was the son of Thomas Nicholas Purefoy (b 1657; d 1687 in Virginia), who in turn had a father named Thomas Purefoy, Jr. (b 1621 & d. 1675 in Virginia and that he was the son of Thomas Purefoy b 1578; d 1655 who came to Virginia from England circa 1620. I think the Thomas Purifoy who came to Virginia married Lucy Ranson and he was the 6th son of yet another Thomas Purifoy of Leicestershire, England- died 1542/married Margeri Fitzherbert. Can anyone confirm any of this?? Thanks!
