I was most interested in your post and have spent several days trying to find the answer but have been unable to.However, this is what I do have: Edward Clarence Purington b 9 Aug 1870.The 3rd child of John Louville and Mary Ann (Larrabee) Purington. His syblings are:Willis b 2 May 1863, d 18 Feb 1870: John Larrabee b 27 February 1864 and Arthur Knight b. 18 Jul 1880. The family is in the 1880 Census in Bath, Maine.Willis is already dead and Arthur not yet born.
My source is the Rev. Charles Nelson Sinnett, Purinton/Purington Family in America. p. 173. (Originally a typescript written prior to 1929)
I think Elmer Cecil and Julia Agnes are too young to be syblings of Edward Clarence.Could he be their uncle?I found in the 1910 Census that Edward Clarence and Marion (Luce)had a son, Clarence M.(6)and lived in Brunswick, Maine. He was Mail Agent for the Maine Central RR. He d 31 Dec 1915.(IGI)Marion is a widow in the 1930 Census in Brunswick.
In the 1930 Census, Arthur Knight and wife Ada M.(Marr), live in Bath, Maine. He the City Editor of the Bath Times.I have that John Larrabee died in Bradenton, FL 28 June 1954 (IGI).I wonder if Elmer and Julia are children of either John L. or Arthur K..I found Julia and Jay Murphy in the 1930 Census living in Portland with two daughters Roberta (3)and Delores (5/12) and nephew, Warren Peters(9).
Although I could not find Elmer in the Census I did find the following in Maine Military Men, 1917-1918 (Ancestry): Elmer C. Purington age 21, residence Portland enlisted at Portland, Apr. 8/17. Private.Org:2 Co CA Me NG to Aug 24/17; Co A 101 Engrs to discharge. Champagne-Marne; Aisne-Marne; St Mihiel; Meuse-Argonne.Overseas: Sept. 26/17 to Apr. 4/19.Hon. discharged on demobiliaztion: Apr. 28, 1919.
If you need help relating these Puringtons back to our Immigrant Ancestor, George Puddington/Purington, who came to York, Maine in 1634, I can help you with that. You can contact me directly.
