Re: Rackstraw of Kent
I AM TRYING HARD TO WORK OUT WHERE THE RACKSTRAWS FIT INTO MY FAMILY.
We have a family bible and this is what is written in the front of it.
A list of the children of Josiah and Elizabeth Mary Rackstraw
Josiah March 7th 1819
Elizabeth Jane June 30 1821- Died June 16th 1886
George September 21st 1826- Died Sept 5th 1882
Henry April 8th 1829-Died Jan 25th 1888
John Starbuck Rackstraw June 28th 1833
Elizabeth Mary Rackstraw died Nov 3rd 1862 aged 72 years.
Now the confusing bit for me is how they are linked with my family the Harris's of Twickenham. The only links I have so far are these.
I found the Rackstraws on the census and I think I'm right in saying they were born in Gravesend.
Now our link with that area is a wife of a Harris that was born in Gravesend called Sarah Lazell 1824.
My Aunt who is nearly 90 remembers an Aunt Rackstraw, (no christian name! She also remembers Ann Lazell, and her mother used to visit an aunt in Rayleigh Essex just across the water from Gravesend.)
My Aunt also has a pearl Locket that belonged to John Rackstraw.
But how we ended up with the bible and where the Rackstraws are linked to us is a mystery.
I have found lots of information on the Rackstraw line through the census, but I don't know!
Does anyone have links with Lazzells, or Harris's, or Twickenham even?
