Looks like we're all from the same branch of the family. We trace back to the Virginia Raileys as well.
I've heard the Sir Walter Raleigh story, but the connection is unlikely to be directly to Sir Walter.I've done quite a bit of research into his history. His son, Carew, died childless during one of Sir Walter's exploratory voyages in South America. The more likely direct ancestor is Sir Walter's brother, Carew, who also had a son of the same name.
Unfortunately I can't site any of my research sources at the moment.I did most of my research when I lived in Virginia some 16 years ago.I can tell you that the Fairfax county public library lots of the older land grant and related information from the early days of the colony.I remember finding the location of the homestead in Chesterfield County and I have vague memory of driving out there once with my parents.
Best wishes,
