Re: Ramanuskas from Lithuania in 1880's
Hi, thanks for replying!
My greatgrandpa Jonas Ramanauskas was born in Russia (don't know where) and emigrated to Lithuania (maybe end XIX century, beginning XX). In a place called Rura Kalnya, he and his belarussian wife, Rosalija, had 5 children: Zhefstinka, Mikhalina, Yadza, Leonardas and Wendy (my grandma, born 1927). Today Rura Kalnya belongs to Poland. In 1932, Jonas, Rosalija, Wendy, Leonardas and Biliukeine (Mikhalina's husband) emigrated to Brazil. I'd like to know where exactly is Rura Kalnya and if I had any relative there. I'd like also to know in which place of Russia and Belarus did my greatgrandparents born.
Jonas "original" surname was Romanosk (what does it mean?), it was changed when he came to Lithuania.
In Brazil, the names were registered as following:
Jonas: João (wrongly, because it should be Ivan: João);
Rosalija (or Rozaliej): Rosália
Leonardas: Leonardo (the right form should be Leôncio);
Mikhalina: Miquelina or Miguelina
Zhefstinka (not sure about right graphy): Josefina;
