Remy/Ramey of Shenandoah Va. to Oh
Everyone seems to want to connect their Remy/Ramey roots to the French Connection of Didier..Well this is what I know so far. My connection is Lewis Remy/Ramey Jr. b abt 1780-90 He was married to MargaretLamb, in the early 1800's. Land records in Woodstock Va. show that in 1816 Lewis and his wife Margaret soldland for $525.ooAfter that they moved to VintonCo. Ohio.
Lewis and Margaret's children are:
1. James Ramey b.abt.1819**
2.Harriett"b.abt. 1821
3. Lewis"b abt 1823
4. Hiram"b abt 1825"
5. Julia Ann"b abt 1827
6. David"b abt 1829
7 Ivy?"b abt 1834
**I am a gg granddaughter of James Ramey who married Elizabeth Brown.
I've read thatLewis Jr, was also married to Hannah Bateman first, and that their childern also came to Vinton Co, OH. Their children are: Elias b.abt 1808, Alexander b abt 1809, John b. abt. 1811 and Emily b.abt. 1814.
My oral family history talks about the town of Luray, and the Luray Caverns of the Shenandoah County in Va. being named after Lewis Remy Sr. Here seems to lie the problem, it seems that different people have given Lewis Remy/Ramey b. ca 1780-90 different fathers. All the different Daddies connect him back to Jacob(Jacques) Remy b. abt 1630 in Lorraine France.
