Please understand that I descend from Albert Jackson Briscoe the brother of George.I can put you in touch with descendants of George and Rebecca but I have never talked to any of them about Genealogy.I know that the youngest son of George and Rebecca was named Trap but I do not know if George was called this.
I have mainly looked at the Rampey's because I have had such a horrible time with my Briskey's and Ackermans who materialize in Edgefield County without a clue as to where they came from. You asked whether the name was Briskey or Briscoe. We do not know.In 1790 Nicholas Briskey shows up both in Abbeville and Edgefield. One place his name is spelled Brigstii and the other Brishey. In the 1800 and 1810 census he shows up as Nicholas Briskey.Nicholas has two sons, Nicholas who goes to Chambers County, Alabama and who keeps the Briskey name. The second son John stays in Edgefield and lives near Peter Rampey.John is the father of George and my Albert Jackson Briscoe.John is always Briskey on the census but his land transactions are and the mention of him in Jacob Ackerman's probate shows him as Briscoe. When his descendants leave and move to Texas they all become Briscoes.
I appears that there were a lot of people leaving Edgefield County, for Texas. All the children of John Briskey left. They were Catherine Henderson, Alonzo F. Harris and his wife Annie, John W. Briscoe and James Nicholas Briscoe and George and Francis. Also Eliza Briscoe who was single. My ALbert Jackson Brisco had already left and moved to Attala County, Mississippi but shows up in Texas at the same time as the others.
I find Peter Rampey on the 1850 and 1860 census. In 1850 he is in Abbeville County and he hs the children Mary H., Francis R., John G., William C., and Eliza A..In 1860 he has John, Eliza, Philip and Margaret.
