My ancestor is Sarah Ragsdale who married Elcain Johnson in 1825 they lived in Dist. #4 Williamson Co., TN. Sarah Ragsdale's sister Mahala Ragsdale married John M. Johnson a brother of Elcain. Elcain and John M. Johnson along with several others including Elizabeth Johnson Ragsdale inherited property from Jefferey Johnson who we believe was their father. We did not find a will only a deed giving them property.
If you look at the census records for Dist. #2 Williamson Co. you will find John M. Johnson and Jeffery Johnson living close or next door to the Ragsdales in every census.
Sarah and Mahala Ragsdale's parents were John and Mary Ragsdale. This John Ragsdale was a brother of Benjamin Ragsdale the Rev. soldier.
I had not looked at the Ragsdale family in a long time but my brother-in-law wants to go into the SAR and we believe that the John B. Ragsdale living in the 2nd Dist. Wm. Co., TN is the son of Benjamin Ragsdale the Rev. soldier.
John Brown Ragsdale married Mary Heron Randolph 5-19-1821 in Maury Co., TN. John B. Ragsdale had a son Solomon who was 5 years old in the 1850 Census if this John Brown and Mary divorced would she have left her small child?
Do you have the names of Mary Heron Randolph Ragsdale's children?
John Ragsdale married Sarah Dowdy 28 Apr. 1849 in Wm. Co., TN.
We have census records showing John B. Ragsdale in Dist. #2 Wm. Co. in 1840. I have school census records showing John B. Ragsdale having 6 children in school in 1843 in Dist. #2 Wm. Co., TN.
We have John Ragsdale in Dist. #2 in the 1850 census married to Sarah with son Solomon age 5. John B. Ragsdale did not marry Sarah until 1849 so Sarah probably is not the mother of Solomon.
John B. Ragsdale is in Hickman Co., TN in 1860 with his wife Sarah and children, Solomon K. Ragsdale, Martha L. and Sarah E.
Solomon K. Ragsdale is Solomon Jenkins K. Ragsdale he married Josephine Bradley and both of them are buried in the Willow Springs Cemetery in Hickman Co., TN.
John B. Ragsdale was still living in Hickman Co. in the 1870 and 1880 Census.
There were two different sets of Ragsdale in Williamson Co., TN early. Benjamin Ragsdale's bunch lived in Dist. #2 and the other Ragsdale family, that of Edward Ragsdale lived over in the east part of the county in the Flat Creek Community, not sure which dist.
As far as I can tell these two families were not related.
Info below is on the Flat Creek Ragsdales:
There is a probate record for Edward Ragsdale, Sr., in 1823 in Wm. Co., TN. His children were John, Robert, Nancy Andrews (Dec'd), Edward, James B., Elizabeth Crick (Mrs. William); and Frances L. Ragsdale.
There is another Edward Ragsdale who died in 1823 in Wm. Co., TN and his wife was Penelope Ragsdale. The children were Martha (Mrs. Chapman) White, Moses C. Ragsdale, Elizabeth, Catherine M., Henry, Robert, Edward and William. The grandchildren were William C. White, Abram White, Lucinda M. White and Moses White.
