There has been some question regarding the maiden name of Rhoda Ransdell.Rhoda was the wife of Sanford Wesley Ransdell, Sr.Following is a copy of an obituary for William Sanford Ransdell, son of Sanford Sr.

William Sanford Ransdell, an old citizen of Lafayette Township, died Tuesday evening of heart disease, aged 75 years.A son of Sanford Wesley Ransdell and Rhoda Sampson, subject was a native of Floyd County, Indiana, resided many years in Vigo County of that state, and removed to Illinois about 1860.Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane, and six children.Burial was at Muddy Point Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Jane Ransdell, age 88, for 40 years a resident of Coles County, passed away at 6:00 AM this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. C. Clark, in Lafayette Twp.Death was due to infirmities of advanced years and came after a brief illness.
Funeral services to be held at 10:30 o'clock on Monday morning from Lafayette Presbyterian Church, Rev. A. M. Kelso of this city officiating.Burial will be at Muddy Point Cemetery southwest of Lerna.The daughter of John and Mary Harris Teague of Shelby County, Kentucky, subject is survived by her children:James Ransdell, Lerna; Jasper of Greeley, Colorado; Mrs. Nancy Coon, Mattoon; Mrs. Angeline Jordan, Trilla, Mrs. Robert Highland and Mrs. E. C. Clark of Lafayette Township.
Coincidentally, this past Sunday I received a telephone call from a Charles Ransdell.It turns out my husband (Charles Ransdell) and I were traveling near Orangeburg, S.C. some years ago and saw Charles Ransdell on a mail box.I telephoned him when we returned home and sent him material.On Sunday he states his tie in with our line is through Jasper, son of the above mentioned William Sanford Ransdell.I am sending him a copy of the obituary, and now he has info to proceed with the Teague line.
