Hi:I hope you all are still checking this forum as I see these posts are several years old.
I descend from James C Rasberry through his daughter Nancy Elizabeth. Nancy Elizabeth married Edwin Alexis Delchamps in Mobile and they had one daughter, Anna Marie Delchamps(my ggrandmother), before Nancy Elizabeth died.
I am looking for James' parents and although I'm not certain I think his parents are William Rasberry and Nancy Kirby. It would make sense that my gggrandmother Nancy Elizabeth would have received the names she did as she would have been named for both grandmothers - Nancy Kirby and Elizabeth Allen.
One thing I wonder about the 1850 census is if the first William (the 20 year old) listed is really not a William, but a Thomas and there was an error made at the time the census was taken. The reason I wonder this is because in 1860, James and Jemima still have a "brother" living with them and the age has progressed to 30 as expected but this one's name is Thomas J Rasberry. Just a guess - it couls be correct as is - I've just always wondered why there were two Williams as they appear to be brothers.
Andrea
