I believe you are an expert on Rashleigh genealogy. My family had connections with the Rashleighs - my ancestors mainly came from the east side of Cornwall (UK) but married into some of the landed families of Cornwall and North-East Devon.
I have discovered a website, www.faulkner-history.fsnet.co.uk/Rashleigh_frame.htm (based on the work carried out many years ago by E W Rashleigh), which claims to trace the Rashleigh family in Cornwall back to its roots in the Barnstable area of Devon. My ancestor Robert Rashleigh ('Robert Rashleigh of Hole') apparently married Agnes Chichester. (Some of the later Rashleighs also married Chichesters.) This is not surprising, as the Rashleighs & Chichesters lived fairly close to each other in the Barnstable area. Robert was the elder brother of Philip Rashleigh who moved to Cornwall and founded the Fowey (& later Menabilly) lines of the family. However, Robert I think stayed in Devon. I have no dates for him, but he was probably born about 1470-1500 and probably died around 1550.
However I cannot find any trace of his wife Agnes Chichester, and wonder whether the info in the Rashleigh website is correct. There were two or three Agnes'. One source (www.tudorplace.com.ar/CHICHESTER) lists an Agnes of the right date, daughter of Richard Chichester & Thomasine de Hall, but I think she married Robert Pollard. Another Agnes (daughter of John Chichester & grand-daughter of Sir John Chichester of Raleigh) was born around the 1540's and can't be the right one.
I would welcome any help with finding this Agnes, and indeed anything about Robert Rashleigh and his immediate family and forebears - can you point me in the right direction?
Many thanks - hope this message reaches you,
