Re: Family crest
We have a Rasmussen Family Crest that was given to us by a relative. I can't scan it because it is wood but will attempt to describe it..there is a shield shape with swirly sort of edges at the side but solid at top and bottom. This is separated into two parts - approx one third at the top and two thirds at the bottom. The two parts are separated by a knights helmet. Atop the helmet and placed in the top half of the shield is the upper half of a rearing white unicorn with red wings. The wings each have a yellow band with three black blazes on the yellow.
The lower half contains a red shield with a white rearing unicorn on it (no wings). There is a yellow band diagonally across the red shield from lower left to upper right. Three black blazes on the yellow band.
I don't think blazes is the correct term for the black bits but I cannot remember what they are called. They look abit like three spear tips on one lance. The middle tip is straight but the two on either side curl over and under away from the centre. The three are secured with a band - looks a bit like a sheaf of wheat tied in the middle and splaying out over the top.
Now that you have this amazing mental image of the Rasmussen shield you may regret I answered. How does this compare with what you have?
