Re: Rostorfer Rastorfer Rostofer Rostover Niederbipp, Switzerland
John U. was in the 1860 Marion County, Illinois Federal Census as: John Restofer, age 32, born in Switzerland. Along with wife Mary age 24, born Germany, with son Henry, age 4 and dau. Anne, age 2, both born in Illinois. The Marion County, Il recorders office shows he bought land 21 Jan 1859 and sold same land 1 Mar 1867, he was of Moniteau County, MO as of that date. He became Naturalized citizen in Moniteau County Circuit Court on 18 Aug 1868. He went to Morgan County, MO in November 1868.
Buried in Rastorfer Cemetery in Laurie, MO, Morgan County. Located between Lake Road 5-14S and Lake Road 5-16
IMMIGRATION: Billiter Data states Hans Ulrich Rastorferimmigrated to America.
I have researched John Ulysses Rastorfer dob 27 Jun 1827 extensively and can find no reference of anyone by this name born in Niederbipp, Switzerland. Addionally, the name Ulysses is nearly never used by the Swiss. I believe that Hans Ulrich Rastorfer dob 24 Jun 1827 and John Ulysses are one and the same person. As happened with many immigrants, I believe his name was Americanized into John Ulysses Rastorfer.
