Re: Splain Rattan
There's not much info. about Splain that I've been able to find.As you probably know his grandfather was killed in an ambush by Indians.I'm writing a book about the Rattans and will include below an excerpt from my book that contains a quote from an Illinois attorney who published a book about the Rattans in 1947.
I noticed that you are a Throckmorton. Are you related to the James Webb Throckmorton who married Ann Rattan?I've never tried to track down the descendants of Governor Throckmorton but would be interested if you have any info.
"Wade Rattan’s wife Polly moved back to Illinois where she remained for the rest of her life.Eventually the heirs of Wade Hampton Rattan (1812) applied for and received his land grant in Collin County, Texas.According to Edward Ewing Adams, Hamp Rattan had a son and grandson:'Wade Hampton Rattan…had a son Wade Hampton Rattan, who lived at McKinney, Texas. He is said to have been addicted to strong drink and died poor. This Wade Hampton Rattan last mentioned had a son named Splain, who also lived and died at McKinney.'”
