Mary Reagan married Gen. Thomas Moore, 1811, Washington, D.C.
Seeking info on a Reagan family living in the vicinity of Washington, D.C., in 1811.
"Married at Georgetown, ([District of] Col[umbia].) on Tuesday evening, 5th inst[ant]. by Rev. David Wiley, General Thomas Moore, Member of Congress, from South Carolina, to Miss Mary Reagan, of that place." National Intelligencer newspaper, Wednesday morning, 20 March 1811
Am a descendant of General Thomas Moore (died 1822 Spartanburg County, South Carolina) by his first wife Patsy Price about whose families I have good information.
Have so far been unable to learn any facts concerning the Reagan parents of Thomas's second wife Mary Reagan who was living in Georgetown, District of Columbia, at the time of her marriage in 1811 to Congressman Moore. Nor have I been able to find birth or death dates or a burial place for Mary Reagan Moore.
Mary was listed in Thomas Moore's estate papers up to 21 Aug 1823. Thomas left Mary a life estate in some of his property (including his dwelling "Fredonia"), but there are no separate estate papers in Spartanburg for Mary herself (possibly because her husband's will provided for that property's distribution to certain of his children at Mary's eventual death). "Fredonia" is said to have been sold "about 1820" to Thomas's brother Dr. Andrew Barry Moore, but that date is unlikely as the estate was still not settled in 1823.
Mary has no gravestone at Walnut Grove Plantation where Thomas and Patsy are buried. Nor has an obituary been found reporting Mary's death. Several of her children moved to Madison County, Mississippi, by 1830, but if Mary moved to Mississippi, also, then her move was later than 1830.
But the name "Mary Moore," age between 30 and 39 years, is listed in the 1830 federal census for Spartanburg County in the vicinity of other related Moore and Barry families. This indicates Mary was born between 1791 and 1795 and that Mary did not go to Mississippi with her children.
