James Reddin--Elizabeth Stocks in Georgia

By Joseph Redding November 13, 2010 at 08:11:50

I have found a Georgia Marriage Record for James Reddin and Elizabeth Bledsoe who married 09 Oct 1816 in Greene Co GA.There is also an 1820 census record for James Reddin in Greene Co GA.After a brief search, I find that Elizabeth was Elizabeth Stocks who had married Aaron Bledsoe Jr 30 Jul 1808. At this point I have only found the name of one child and that would be Thomas W Bledsoe.**** Please consider my findings and let me hear if you have data that supports or disproves that the James Reddin in Greene Co GA in 1820 is the same James Reddin (Redden) found in the 1830 and 1840 Habersham Co GA census and also the 1850 Union Co GA census which has James Redden b 1800, no wife, and children Martin, Clarissa, Nancy, Sabra, Marion, Martha and Samuel.**** If the James Redden is the same person then it is quite possible that the mother of the children listed would be Elizabeth Stocks born about 1890 in Greene Co GA.I am convinced that there were 3 older siblings not listed in the same household in the 1850 Union Co GA census. Two of those are Sina Ann (Redden) Johnson who married Bynum Wilkerson Johnson and is living in Union Co GA in 1850 and next door is her brother George and his wife, Rachel or Rebecca [will explain after mentioning next sibling].The 3rd sibling not listed in the same household as James Redden in 1850 is Carroll and I can not support this but it does fit the 1830 and 1840 census mentioned. Also George named a son Wm Carroll Redden according to some but I can only verify the name Wm.*******To explain my confusion about Rachel or Rebecca as the wife of George Redden I would like you to look at the 1850 Union Co GA census where is listed George 32 GA, Rachel 38 NC, Wm 9, Martha 7, James 5, Infant 9 months. Then look at the 1860 census for Towns Co GA where is listed George 36 GA, Rebecca 33 NC, Wm 16, Martha 14, James 12, Nancy 10, Columbus 8, Allen 5, Van 2, and looks like Bud but I believe Bird is a family name and this child is 6 months. The children are the same name and order in both census but in the 1860 census they are only 7 years older rather than 10.***I am a Redding and know from family I have met that they had a hard time getting age correct. My grandfather Joseph Green Redding was born 01 Jan 1891 but after 1920 he told folks he was born 1882 and that is what is on his tombstone.**** I would appreciate any comment or contribution. You may contact me at wbredsail at yahoo.com
