Reehs in the area of New Braunfels, TX
Hi, my name is Marty and I'm trying to find kin both near and not so near, past and present. My father's family emigrated to Texas, but I'm not sure of which year.My dad's father was born in the U.S., but his brother was born in Germany. My grandfather's name was either Edward or Edmund. He married a woman named Ada Boerner, I don't know what year, but my father was the 2nd oldest brother and was born in 1916.The names of the boys were Arnold, Norman (my dad), Raymond (called Ramsay), and Nelson. The girls were Lucilla and Virginia.Virginia died of the flu when she was very young. My Uncle Nelson died of polio in the 40's.
Both sides of the families were pioneers in the literal sense.I had a great-great-great grandmother who may have been on the Boerner side who was one of the pioneers who emigrated to Texas during the troubles with the Commanches. There is a story that is told about how it was during Easter that a group of settlers were being followed by the Commanches. One night they could see the fires of the war parties and to calm the children told them that they were fires being lit by the Easter Bunny to color Easter eggs. The next day the Commanches failed to attack.I've always thought that a lovely story.
I don't know much more about my family, and my father is now dead.We lived up in Washington so we were never close and I grew up without the advantage of being around cousins, etc.I know I have a cousin named Warren Elbel--first, second, or whatever. My father had an aunt named Maida Elbel, if that name is familiar to anyone.
If any of you can help me, are possibly related to me, I'd love to hear from you.
