Death of Rose Ann (Reigle) Adams ~ born Hamilton County, Ohio
The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, July 26, 1906
MRS. R.A. ADAMS died at her home in this city, last Thursday morning at
10:00 o'clock after a brief illness, aged 73 years, 6 months and 27 days.
ROSE ANN REIGLE was born at Cadix, Hamilton County, Ohio, Dec. 22, 1832.
She came with her parents to Van Buren County, Iowa, in 1848, and was united
in marriage to MR. FINLEY ADAMS, in Madison County, Iowa, in 1857, coming to
Chariton in the fall of the following year, and has resided here ever since.
Her husband enlisted during the rebellion at Eddyville, in 1861, in Co. I.,
7th Iowa Vol. Inf., and immediately went to the front. He was wounded at
Corinth, Miss., in 1862, and died in the hospital in St. Louis on Dec. 5,
1863.Thus she was bereft of companion in early life and was left to cope
with the world's affairs alone, but she proved equal to her task and has,
during all these years, cherished his memory in solitude, and when her
children were small, cared for them with a mother's devotion, sparing no
pains for their comfort and welfare.
She was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church and united with the
congregation in Chariton in the earlier years of its existence and remained
steadfast in the faith to the end.
Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday, conducted by her pastor,
Rev. McCollough, who paid a tribute to her memory befitting her life and
experience. She and her two sons, P.L. and R.F., resided at the home place,
and besides these, the two orphaned children of a friend enjoyed its
comforts, the MISSES CORA and ETHEL WOOD, who feel keenly the loss of what
was to them a mother and councelor, they being of tender years. Many kind
neighbors were present ere the consignment of her mortal remains to the tomb
but she lives in their memories as one who ever bore her part well.
CARD OF THANKS
We desire to express our appreciation and thanks for the generous assistance
of neighbors and friends in the late illness of our mother, for the many
kindnesses shown in the darker hours of bereavement.
-- P.L. and R.F. ADAMS and
CORA and ETHEL WOOD.
