Hi Pat and Les, I have been evesdropping on your mail messages on this site. Was interested to learn that Pat lives in San Antonio.I am sure you must be familiar with the wonderful painting of Col. William Travis at the Alamo. This painting was painted by Ruth Conerly who also is believed to be a descendant of Hannah and George through a son called Buxton Lawn. Small world!!One of Ruth's grandsons lives in Fort Worth.Ruth originated from Marshall, Texas.Buxton Lawn went to America in the early 19th century but returned to England missing his wife and children who had gone to America to be with him. They never met up.We have yet to discover the final chapter of that particular story either. Hannah has been in the news in the U.K. of late. The remains of Charlotte Dalton, reputed grand daughter of George III by Hannah Lightfoot were discovered during restoration work in St. Peter's Church, Carmarthen.I visited yesterday and saw the site for myself. Some of the information they had was not quite accurate but that has now been put right. At least Hannah's name has been brought back into the public domain again. Was fortunate to meet the widow of R. E. D. Wheeler, a descendant of Henry Wheeler, Hannah's linen draper uncle, a few weeks ago.It was as a result of an amazing set of circumstances and could not have been planned if I had tried.I was able to see a portrait which has been in the family for generations of Hannah - well, they think it is of Hannah.I had only ever seen copies of it in black and white so it was good to see the original.
