Madisonville Democrat, (Monroe Co. TN) Thursday, December 18, 1952:
“Wants To Leave Her Poetry For Posterity---Dear Editor, I am enclosing a little poem which I would like for you to publish in The Democrat this week, if you think it is good enough. I like to contribute something each year and I have several things I would like to contribute before I leave this world. When one has been in the world for almost 80 years, he or she cannot equal the modern-day writers. I hope you have a Merry Christmas.Mrs. H.D. Reynolds,Englewood, [McMinn Co. TN].
A great tumult is raging among our nations Which are rife with sin and strife; None can quell the dire and sinful conditions That are taking human life. While each of these riotous and selfish nations Are bringing forth their plan, Which will give to them a standing Despite the good of their fellow man. Yet the Bible tells us wars will come While hate and envy reign; And what we gain in the race Will often bring disdain. Yet God is still in the Heavens, With a great and loving heart, Weeping no doubt for a sinful world, Bidding us from such depart. All wars bring grief and sadness To many who wait at home, For a message from some dear loved one--- The message may never come. And, dear readers, as we daily go Along our earthly way, Let’s talk with Him whose mighty power Can stop this bloody fray.”
