It's been years since I've done any real genealogical research, but there are a few questions that have bugged me to this day. This is one:
28 Mar, 1877 - Nannie Margaret REYNOLDS (wife of Medley Shelton McGee) dies at Stockdale, Texas and is buried in Stockdale Cemetery. Their daughter, five year old Minnie Lee McGEE goes to live with her grandparents, M.H. and Lucy REYNOLDS, never returning to live with her father. She is eventually buried in the Reynolds family plot at the Dugger Cemetery, Guadalupe County, Texas. The daughter of another of her sisters told me once, years later, that Minnie's brothers and sisters were forever forbidden to speak of her around their father. She came to town for a visit once, and a couple of the girls sneaked away to see her, and the old man almost killed them when he found out.
My question: what could a 5 year old girl have done to cause this kind of treatment? Surely one of the sibs must have told her family the story in later years. Anybody have a clue?
