I am currently researching the parents of Charles Edward Reynolds b/Dec 1859? NY both parents b/NY.
I have come across Marian Benjamin 1833 and Lawrence Edward Reynolds 1835 on FamilySearch as parents of a Charles Edward Reynolds b/Dec 15 1857 NY.
What happened to this Marian Benjamin Reynolds? What happened to her husband Lawrence? And of course what happened to Charles after she died?He would have been less than 2 at the time.
Our Charles' daughter is named Marian, link or coincidence?
In 1860 I find a Charles Edward with a Safford Reynolds and a wife who in later census claims to have never had children. Also Charles is listed beneath the servant so I'm guessing this Charles age 2 is not Safford's son. Charles is not with them in 1870 age 12.
Our Charles named his son Safford and his g/son was named Safford. The Safford in the 1860 became a Dentist and our Charles has a family history of a Dr. Reynolds. The servant was b/VT and Charles' children were later b/VT, poss/coincidence?
But, is the Charles Edward born to Marian Benjamin and Lawrence Reynolds in Washington Co, NY, the same Charles Edward living with Safford Reynolds in 1860 Washington Co, NY?And more importantly is one or both our Charles Edward Reynolds?
Here I'm just speculating! If these are the same Charles then perhaps Marian Benjamin and Lawrence Reynolds both died and Safford Reynolds [who is the right age to be a brother to Lawrence] took Charles in. Perhaps Charles went off to seek his own fortune or live with another relative by 1870 age 12.Where was he in 1880?
Or? Are they two separate Charles Edward Reynolds born or living in Washington Co, NY at the right time?
The earliest I've been able to document our Charles Edward is the 1900 MA census.
If anyone could illuminate me on this issue I would really appreciate it.
