J. D. Reynolds, 84, of Greeneville, Greene Co TN, died Saturday, November 1, 2008.
Mr. Reynolds was a retired teacher, basketball coach, and baseball coach at Baileyton and Greeneville high schools. He had been the bookkeeper for the former Reynolds Auto Parts.
Mr. Reynolds was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Andrew Johnson Post No. 1990, and the American Legion Post No. 64. He served in the Greene County Honor Guard for 65 years.
Mr. Reynolds participated in the Senior Games with his brother, Bill Reynolds, for 20 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was a son of the late George and Verna Reynolds and was preceded in death by three brothers, Buford Reynolds, Carl 'Buster' Reynolds, and George Reynolds Jr.; and a sister, Clarice Gass.
The family noted, he was a kind, gentle man and loved his family, church, and country.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Reynolds; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Glenna Reynolds of Greeneville, TN; his special nieces and special nephews, Ginger Goings, Gayle Matthews, Patti Riblet, Stanley Reynolds, Billy Reynolds Jr., Doug Reynolds, Belinda Tweed, Kim Fletcher, Beth Johnson, and Don Johnson; a sister-in-law, Faye Reynolds; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a special friend, Marti Lynch.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Trinity UM Church.
The funeral service will follow visitation at 7 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Darris Doyle will officiate.
A committal service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, November 5, 2008, in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Greeneville-Greene County Honor Guard will convey a military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Billy Reynolds, Doug Reynolds, Stanley Reynolds, Shane Matthews, John Riblet, David Dalton, and Don Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Crusaders Class of Trinity UM Church, the Kmart Coffee Club, and the Thursday Morning Breakfast Club.
