Well, there's a little rough spot around that Christmas Day birth still....Philetus being suggested as a brother of Jacob. The History of Greene County, New York or Berkshire County, Massachusetts suggesting Philetus' birth in Sheffield. My brother's middle name being Sheffield and Van Olinda Sheffield Reynolds my great grandfather....
I just got back from a trip to Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana where I found Sheffield Congregational Church records by James Bradford, Pastor, 1814.Records of a council meeting "at Sheffield Oct. 22nd, 1735, at the desire of the inhabitants, to gather a church, and ordain Mr. Jonathan Hubbard to the pastoral office there, present the Rev'd Ministers, viz: "Timothy Cobens of Litchfield, Deac. Nath'l Belden. Samuel Hopkins of Springfield. Peter Reynolds of Enfield*, Captain Joseph Saxton**. Jonathan Edwards of Northampton, Deac. Samuel Alen. William Rand, of Sunderland, Deac. Isack Tuband. ..... Peter Reynolds, Scribe. A true copy. James Bradford. "(1870, Sept. 14. I am this informed by letter from Rev. David Peck, of Sunderland, that the name of the delegate from that place to the Council above named must have been Isaac Hubbard Mason Noble Jr. Pastor)"
[*Enfield is in Hartford County, Connecticut. **Philetus Reynolds married a Diadamia Saxton.]
