Were John, Samuel, & Richard REYNOLDS really brothers? Tillman information is that Samuel was born 1765 (also have seen 1757 for birthdate), a Rev War vet; Richard, born 1772; and John REYNOLDS' birth date, according to a family Bible, was 2 March 1782. They were supposed to be the sons of Jeremiah and Susanna CHAMNESS REYNOLDS. This Jeremiah was the son of William and Mary BROWN REYNOLDS. Tillman indicates that William REYNOLDS was born in Kent County, VA.
Researching in Quaker records, I found info on Jeremiah’s family, confirming his parentage. However, he had no sons named John, Samuel, or Richard. Jeremiah and his father, William, were from PA, not VA & settled in NC, not SC.
Samuel REYNOLDS was probably born in SC, where he enlisted from Spartanburg District (to GA by 1790, according to his pension application). John is believed to be also born in SC.
Tillman is correct that there was a William REYNOLDS born in Kent County, VA. This William’s father is given as being another William, from Middlesex County, VA, with his father being Thomas of Isle of Wight, who married Mary Elizabeth ASHALL, daughter of George ASHALL.
However, after researching John, I believe that he belongs to Richard Spencer REYNOLDS of Wilkes Co, GA, who came from Caroline-Henry Co, VA. Does anybody have info proving or disproving that John, Samuel, & Richard were brothers?
