My oldest son, Justin Rhett Taber is off to college.I discovered a pure merit scholarship on the internet that pays $ to descendants of Arthur Middleton, Signer of the Declaration of Indep., which may include Justin. My grandfather, William Brock Taber, was active with geneology and his records indicate it thusly. Is there still a Society of the Cincinnati in New York? If there is already documentation tying Arthur Middleton to the Smiths/Rhetts, I have a chance getting some scholarship funds although the application deadline is 3/15/00! As a real neophyte in geneology matters, this is my first attempt to get with it. I have an 1896 book entitled the "Smith's of Exeter and Their Descendants" by Arthur Smith that was printed for private circulation. My records indicate the following:
1)Justin Rhett Taber 2)William Rhett Taber, Jr 3)William Rhett Taber 4)William Brock Taber 5)Marie Mathilde Rhett 6)Benjamin Smith Rhett II 7)Bejamin Smith Rhett I 8)Marianna Gough 9)Elizabeth Barnwell 10)Mary Gibbes 11)Col. John Gibbes 12)Ann Smith13)Ann Middleton 14)Arthur Middleton
