Re: Samuel Richardson md. Mariam Cole 1700's Maryland
William Richardson who came from England toAmerica was born in the 1630's and died in Anne Arundel Co.,Maryland 2 Nov 1697.He married Elizabeth Ewen, widow of Richard Talbott, in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland. He was a quaker and a friend of William Penns's.I descend through his son Joseph Richardson and wife Sarah Thomas.Joseph'sson John born, 19 Mar 1720/1721, had a large family who was raised in Bedford/Campbell counties of Virginia.I'm not sure who his first wife was, but wife Dorothy Snow is listed on his will following his death 2 Oct 1788 in Campbell County, Virginia. His son George was born about 1758 according to his application for pension for participating in the Revolutionary War.He traveled with Daniel Boone helping to open up the trail through the Cumberland Gap in the early 1780's.He married Comfort Claywell, daughter of Solomon Claywell and Margaret James, and had nine children that we know of.George and Comfort made their way to Cumberland County, Kentucky by way of Tennessee between 1796 and 1800.George died there in about 1837.
Of their nine children, Shadrach and Jesse Claywell Richardson left Cumberland County, Kentucky and went to the Cass and Morgan Counties of Illinois. Shadrach and his wife died there, but Jesse and his wife Rebecca P. Ellis moved on to Atchison County, Missouri.Abedneggo and his wife Sarah Claywell ended up going to Clark County, Indiana.Sons Morgan and George Richardson moved to Logan County, Kentucky and their families stayed out their lives in that area.]
John Richardson's son John married Mary Terrell and moved to Highland County, Ohio. Daughters Judy and Sarah married into the Eidson family and moved to Wilke's County, Goergia.Their daughter Elizabeth who married Thomas Rouse/Rowsey must have gone west with George's group because her daughterDelilah married a Wells and remained in the Barren County, Kentucky area while her parents moved on to Hardin County, Tennessee.
I descend through George's son Shadrach and his wife Mary Elizabeth Garrtt who went to Illinois. His sons George and Solomon took the the Oregon Trail to Oregon. Lorenzo Dow stayed, and sisters Delilah, Comfort, and Elizabeth stayed in Illinois.Brother Thomas who married Matilda Jane Thompson either died in Illinois or went with his wife and some of her relatives to Galena, Cherokee, Kansas where he died shortly thereafter because she is found in the 1880 census of that area as a widow. The daughter Mary(Polly) married Benjamin Franklin Stewart in Illinois and they joined the Mormon Church and went west to Utah with the Saints.Son Shadrach Jr. married Benjamin Frankln's sister Lavina and decided togo west to California to join in the rush there for gold in the late 1840's.Lavina was with child at the time and not very strong. They passed through Utah and stopped in Payson to visit their kin folk where Elizabeth took sick and she and her baby soon died.Shadrach no longer had the will to on, so he stayed in Utah with his only two living children Montgomery and William Wilshire and became part of the community and eventually joined the Mormon Church and married a woman named Sarah Haskell.I descend from William Wilshire, to Albert, and then to his daughter Leone Richardson Jensen who still lives at age 87.
I have followed some of the extended families and may be able to help you if you would like to give me their names and I will look in my data base.Larry Richardson flatters me to think that I have such a great knowledge of this family, but I have a long way to go, and I would be happy to help if I can.Marilyn Monson
