There was a William Richardson in Granville County in the 1780's ,listed as a white poll. The same Willam richardson appears 10 years later in the 1790 Census of Halifax County, N.C. as a "Free Person of Color".His wifw was a MourningBass of the Nansemond Indians of Virginia. One of their off spring was named Mary. William had a brother named Benjimin who also married a Nansemond Indian. Her name was Mary Bass. There is a long line of descendents from that marriage, now located in Halifax, County,North Carolina and identified as,"Haliwa-Saponi Indians".
