Isaac B. Rickey (died 7-28-1929)
Greetings from Portland, Oregon!
I am interested in researching my great-grandmother's grandparents. My great grandmother (age 106) is still alive and she has some very interesting stories about her grandparents. Isaac was a Civil War veteran and I have copies of letters between him and then "General" Grant! I am very fortunate to have my great grandmother still living. I am 31 - I'm sure not many people still have their great-grandparents at my age. In fact, her mother, May Rickey was living until I was 8 and I remember some of the stories she told, too. According to something my great-great grandma May Rickey hand wrote,
"Two brothers came to America from France, not sure if name was Rique or Riquette; one of the brothers settled in New York & married a North River Dutch Woman, Branch Rickey was from that union. The other brother settled in the Ohio country and his name was Isaac. He brought apple seeds from New York and sold them through Illinois and Wisconsin. The chest in which he brought them is still in our family. He is buried in Plainfield, Illinois. He had a son, Horton, who died in Plainfield, Illinois. He had a son Horton who died a bachelor in Texas, another son Robert buried in La Plata, MO and a daughter Harriet who married a Collins. Robert had three sons- Robert for many years a doctor in Chicago, Ill. Morton Alexander and Isacc of La Plata Mo. Isaac was my father in law and had six children are the 5th generation and their coat of arms is 1/2 of a Fleur de Lis according to records in St. Louis. I have a son Robert also a grandson Robert to carry on the family name. Robert and Isaac were family names for boys while Francis is carried by the girls. Homer Rickey son of Alexander has been trying for some time to get statistics. There are 16 Rickey boys to carry on the name".
These are the parents in law she was referring to in her written letter:
Isaac B. Rickey died 7-28-1929 and is interred in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma in Section 3, block 8, SW, grave #1
Emma (Dean) Rickey died 3-24-1925 and is in the same section
I would love to confirm this family. From the "statistics" I have gathered so far, this family was from New York and New England and are English, NOT France - as far as I can tell. Any confirmation would be greatly appreciated!
