Case of Rigby against Rigney
The section on John Rigney (section 71) was very helpful. These records are dated 1727-1739, and concern the estate of John Rigney, deceased of Bath Co. In 1738 there was a case identified as “Rigby’s Case Against Rigney”, where there was a petition by Richard Rigby, concerning the estate of John Rigney, a petition of John Rigby and wife, Elizabeth and a petition of William Rigby a document dated 11 Oct 1739, says that “…sd (said, or, previously mentioned” William Rigbey married Elizabeth, the only daughter of said John Rigney, that in about 2 years he left said wife in very poor state; that said Slade maintains and keeps her at his own house; that he had sold at public auction a part of the estate; that he had delivered a pair of millstones, and other goods and livestock to Richard Rigbey, the brother and attorney of said William Rigby in his absence. This court document proves the relationship between Richard Rigby and William Rigby.
