George RIGDON, Baltimore County, MD 1700s
I am starting to input notes I took (while talking to my grandfather before he died) into my genealogy program. Now I realize I should have asked a lot more questions when I had the chance. Can anyone help me fill in some of the gaps I have with this family? Some of this info. differs markedly from what I'm finding on various genealogy bulletin boards:
I was told that "our" Rigdons descended from George Rigdon of Baltimore County, Maryland who married a "Quaker girl from the next county over named Elizabeth Baldwin."Her father supposedly disinherited her for marrying George Rigdon.Grandpa thought the county she was from was Anne Arundel.
Searching various genealogy boards, I find many people who say that George Rigdon married an Elizabeth Baker and a few people who say that he married an Elizabeth Baltman.(I can see how Baltman and Baldwin sound alike when they're spoken aloud.)Does anyone have any clearer info. about the wife Elizabeth _________ of George Rigdon?
Also-- "Our" Rigdons were George Rigdon's granddaughter, Christian (Kitty) Rigdon who married Isaac Wise in Dobbs County, North Carolina circa 1775.
You'd think I would have written down the name of Kitty's father [George Rigdon's son], but I don't seem to have done that. It was hard to keep Grandpa pinned down to one story at a time, and I was taking notes as fast as I could. All I know is that Kitty Rigdon's father moved his family down to North Carolina before the Revolutionary War.
For various reasons, I believe Kitty's father to have been Stephen Rigdon, but I guess it could just as easily have been Enoch Rigdon. On the genealogy boards no one seems to know anything about the Rigdon daughters, just the sons.Does anyone know more about the families of Stephen and Enoch Rigdon, sons of George and Elizabeth Rigdon?
Would greatly appreciate any leads.
Sincerely,
Jenny Stephenson
