Rissling/Kraft from Salsberg, Kutsch, RU
My great-grandfather, Marcus Kraft, was born in a village outside Odessa Russia abt. 1864 to Jacob & Julianna Kraft. He married Elizabeth Katherine Rissling, dau. of Jakob and Caroline Rissling. They had two children; Eugene/Yevgeny and Lydia, who came over to the United States by themselves on a boat before going to Canada and N.D.Markus never came over, because he died in Russia (fell off a horse, possibly on his was to work - he was a professor of music and mathmatics at the University in Odessa).Elizabeth Rissling remarried to Jakob Roll, came to the U.S., died here in the early 1920's.Elizabeth's sister, Teresa, worked for tsar Nicholas II.My uncle had someone research her name and found she traveled a lot with the military/tsar's troups.Possibly as an interpretor, as Teresa spoke 7 languages. The last letter my grandfather received from her was in 1920's, she was writing from the cellar of their house, as there was fighting going on.We do not know what happened to her, if it was found she worked for the tsar, the family could have been executed or exhiled to Siberia.Towns the letters came from, were postmarked: Tiraspol, Lander, Nicholiaev, possibly Franzfeld.Does anyone out there know this family?
