James Robarts, Florida Railroad Man
My Great Grandfather was James Robarts, who married Nancy Emily Crow, of Crows Bluff, Lake County, Florida, in the late 1800's. He worked for Florida East Coast Railroad, and was line foreman on Pigeon Key, south of Marathon, the Florida Keys, then in Jupiter, Florida, where my Grandmother Helen was born in 1910. Later, he worked in Jensen Beach, Florida. He left FEC and worked for the Seaboard Coast Line, and built the tracks through Okeechobee City, where my mother, Ramona, was born in 1929. My Great Uncle James Napoleon Roberts (the Navy changed his name, accidently) was born there, also. Grandfather James died from blood poisoning, from a cut he received while working on the tracks. He is buried in Fort Basinger, Florida.
The other children were named Leona, Frank, Walter, and Ruth.I knew them all, except for Frank, who died in Martin County during the '30's or'40's. His remaining family lives in Frostproof, Florida, now. We have relatives in Arcadia, and Sarasota, Florida, though I have never met them. I understand that we also have relatives in the Daytona Beach, Florida area. I would be interested in communicating with anyone who has knowledge of any of these people.
