Re: Dio Cleason, Dicy, John Robertson, SC/TN
I was reading the Revolutionary War Pension Papers for Robert COLEMAN, husband of Catherine ROBINSON/ROBERTSON.On 2/10/1837 Mercer Co., KY Courthouse, Israel ROBINSON/ROBERTSON testified that Catherine COLEMAN was his Aunt.He further stated that he was 65 yrs. old at the time of the deposition (1772).
William ARMSTRONG gave testimony that Catherine ROBERTSON was the wife of Robert COLEMAN and she was 83 yrs old at the time of his deposition on 2/10/1837, Mercer Co., KY.He further said that he knew their son, James COLEMAN.He stated that Catherine ROBINSON and Robert COLEMAN were married in Botetourt Co., VA in February of 1775 or 1776 by Rev. SMITH.
Since Israel is a common name in my ROBERTSON line, I was wondering if anyone knew which ROBERTSON Family he was connected to?
I also found some interesting information regarding a ROBERTSON/COLEMAN connection.It seems that Dio Cleason ROBERTSON (1804, SC -- 1891, "Ripping Waters Farm" Sevier Co., TN) was raised by a Robert COLEMAN (or indentured to him).Dio Cleason ROBERTSON is reported to be the son of John ROBERTSON (abt 1768, SC or NC -- abt 1816, Newberry Co., SC) and unknown named mother.
Dio Cleason ROBERTSON supposedly ran away from Robert COLEMAN at an early age.Other info says Robert COLEMAN died when Dio was 19 yrs. old.
Dio Cleason ROBERTSON had the following siblings;
1.a sister (no other information)
2.Dicey (sister) born 1800, SC -- d 1878, Sevier Co., TN.She married Hubbard CARNES (1797 -- 1864, TN)
3.John (1810 - abt 1864)
The Genealogical History of the Robertson Family, "Electronic," killed during Civil War while an employee of Union Army Quartermaster Department).
4.Noah born 1812, SC
John ROBERTSON (f/o Dio) was the grandson of Israel ROBERTSON (abt 1700, Charles City Co., VA -- betw 1758 - 1760, Granville Co., NC) and Sarah WILLIAMS (my 7th great grandparents).
