I am trying to make the connection of my 3rd great grandfather, Eprhiam Robertson (b. 29 Sept 1781 NJ? or VA?; married Eleanor "Nellie" Lane ca 1808 Hamilton County?, OH; d. 10 Jan 1830 Preble County, OH) to his father, Samuel Robertson.A family history written in 1929 by one of his grandsons stated that Ephriam's father was named Samuel and he had three brothers - Charles, David and Samuel - and a sister, Anna Robertson Dunwoody/Dunwiddie (b. ca 1784; d. 1867). It says that Ephriam, Charles and David migrated from Kentucky to southwestern Ohio in the late 1790's.
Also, a family history of Aaron Lane, Eprhiam's father-in-law, transcribed in the Oct 1977 Coleraine Pageant (published by The Coleraine Historical Society, Inc., Hamilton County, OH) states "Elenor Lane the 2nd Married Ephrim Robertson, son of Samuel Robertson."
It is possible that Ephriam and his siblings were from New Jersey. The 1860 Preble County Census shows Anna Dunwiddie’s birthplace as New Jersey. And, a Samuel Robertson living in Preble County is shown in the 1850, ‘60 and ‘70 censuses as being born in New Jersey (I do not have solid evidence that this is Eprhiam’s brother). However, a biography of William Lane Robertson, one of Ephriam's grandsons , included in A Biographical History of Darke County, OH (published in 1900 by The Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago, IL) states that Ephriam "was a farmer of Virginia."The name in various documents has been spelled Robeson, Robinson and Roberson.
Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
